Harvey Barrison - Fine Art and Travel Photographer
- I have been traveling the world since 1971; my first trip in an airplane being a spanking new, and almost empty, Boeing 747. My journey traveling the world did not always include photography and when it did the memories captured were on film through the lens of a point and shoot. Then came responsibilities of family, career and also country, as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves from December 1979 until I retired as a Colonel in July 2006. After 27 years of military service I realized that I was about to have a void that needed to be filled. I continued to travel throughout all those years but it took this life changing event for me to grasp the fact that I never chronicled what I saw and what it meant to me. In May of 2006 I purchased my first Nikon camera.
My wife and I accelerated our travels – we decided we had to revisit old places and see new ones while we were able and not get up one day having regrets . . . . Our plans are made years in advance and by the end of 2018 we will have traveled to all seven continents: Asia, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and Antarctica and there are no plans to slow down. You can see all my journeys on Flicker.com at https://www.flickr.com/photos/hbarrison/albums. Flickr is the photography innovation for sharing, storing, and organizing photos in one of the largest worldwide photo communities and where I have had the honor of nearly 8 million views of my portfolio.
My photographs appear in magazines, books, and websites all over the world and in numerous languages – including the University of Texas, Duke University, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s), Smithsonian Magazine, Conde-Nast Publications, Yellow Book [Lebanon County, PA 2014-2015 cover], and myriad scientific and academic journals; I am also a contributor to Wikimedia, a division of Wikipedia.
My wildlife photos and photos capturing the presence of nature include shots taken on safari in South Africa, Tanzania, the Peruvian Amazon, and the Galapagos Archipelago, plus excursions to numerous locations around the world and near to home.
